Feds Can Dig Up 'Deleted' Location Data From Your Car Entertainment System

Feds ripped out the infotainment system of a 2014 Cadillac CTS to rummage it for evidence of criminal activity.

Think all the location and cellphone data stored in your car is gone for good when you’ve wiped the onboard computers? Think again. American cops and cybersecurity researchers say it’s easy to dig up supposedly deleted data from most infotainment systems on the market.
And now there’s a case to prove it. A recent investigation saw the feds exhume data from two distinct vehicular car entertainment hardware units, one made by LG, the other by Bosch. That’s according to a search warrant unearthed by Forbes detailing the case, which focused on narcotics and firearms trafficking crimes allegedly tied to an individual called Dennis
