Fyre Festival attendees win $5m lawsuit against founder Billy McFarland

Fyre Festival was, by all accounts, a shambles. Organisers promised a luxury experience but only offered what one attendee described as “total carnage”. 
Two men have since successfully sued the festival’s founder, Billy McFarland, a North Carolina judge granting them $5 million in damages from the event, according to Vice.
The plaintiffs, Seth Crossno and Mark Thompson, filed their lawsuit last May. They claim to have both spent $13,000 on VIP packages for the Bahamas festival, which included an exclusive ‘island pass’ and a ‘four room living area’ as accommodation.

Why some countries refuse to sign the migration compact

A conference in Marrakech, Morocco, from December 10 to 11 is due to approve the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, which was finalized in July with only the U.S. staying out. But the non-binding accord is drawing strong opposition from nationalists in Europe and elsewhere, and EU countries including Hungary, Austria and Poland have since pulled out or expressed reservations. Refugees and migrants are entitled to the same universal human rights and fundamental freedoms to be protected and fulfilled. However, they are governed by separate legal frameworks. Only refugees are entitled to international protection defined by international refugee law.  The New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants,  was adopted by the UN General Assembly on September 19, 2016, for member states to commit to the protection of the human rights of all refugees and migrants regardless of their status. Netflix star, 14, named youngest-ever UNICEF envoy

UNICEF has appointed Millie Bobby Brown, the star of hit Netflix series "Stranger Things," as its youngest ever goodwill ambassador. When the 14-year-old was asked if she had a message for world leaders, she told Reuters: "Listen to us. Youth is very powerful."  As to her role for the United Nations children's agency, she said, "I want to raise issues about education and violence and ending bullying and ... making sure children have a safe environment and clean water. But I'm still learning what I feel passionate about." Brown's appointment as a goodwill ambassador on Tuesday marked World Children's Day and came after she co-hosted UNICEF's 70th-anniversary celebrations in New York in 2016, interviewing David Beckham on stage.
